Last month Sean posted about a handful of upcoming events. Although a few have come and gone already there are still some left for the month of April that I believe many of you would enjoy.
One event in particular that is about a month away (April 26th) is the El Segundo Run for Education. What happens to make this race so attractive are the location (starts and ends near El Segundo High School) and the lower cost. Normally the competitions that we sign up for tend to be at least an hour away. It is nice to know that this one is in our backyard. As of right now, the 5k Run/Walk is $30 to register and will increase to $35 after April 12th. If the 5k is not a great enough challenge for you then look into the 10k Run. Right now its $35 to sign up and will increase to $40 after April 12th. For the Intrepids who have little ones you can put them in the 1k race for only $15. I also like the course. It is relatively quick with some gradual inclines, but mostly is a flat course. I took part in the 5k run in 2012 along with several other Intrepids and each of us not only had fun, but we also placed well in our age groups. Last year we didn’t register, but I think this year should be a must to participate. In fact, I challenge those who have been coming to the Speed and Endurance Class to go ahead and register. This would be a perfect way to see how far you have come along in your training for the last 7 weeks. Of course this invitation is open to everybody in our gym! Click here to register!
Also on the 26th of April we have the NLI Turf Wars. This event is for individuals that are looking to test their fitness against other local Crossfitters. This competition is being held at Cerritos College and is $90 to register. Events like this tend to sell out quickly so I assume that there are only a few spots left. Just like the Intrepid games, there will be two main WODs and a floater that each athlete has to do, so expect a longer day. What I like about the NLI events is the fact that it pushes you to compete. Not only do you want to perform well, but you also want to beat the competitors that are next to you. In our gym I feel that there at least 6-8 people that are more than ready to compete at an individual competition.
Lastly, for the power lifters, NLI is hosting a Strongman man event called the Strongman Gauntlet Series. I am sure you all have seen strongman competitions on ESPN. These guys pull cars/trucks, press barrels over their head, deadlift Volkswagens, etc. It is very impressive the massive weight that these guys can move. CF Chino Hills will be hosting this event and it looks pretty awesome. Marcus would be proud to see some of his lifters participate in an event like this. Even if you don’t train in the power lifting class the movements and weight seem manageable. Registration is still open and is $55.
Pick your poison! There are many different events that go on year round. I think Intrepid has some awesome athletes and spending a day watching you complete would be fun and exciting. I plan on seeing more and more Intrepids sign up for different events in the near future.
