Athlete Profile: Anna^2

By Marcus | In Athlete Profiles | on April 26, 2012

Today is our dear little one’s birthday and we have a guest post from Michael H. to celebrate:

How does one attempt to write a roast in the presence of the true roast king, B! and to top it off, not get beat up because we’re roasting his wife to be, Anna.

Anna’s been CFI’ing for several years now, and despite all the efforts from our gym members, she still hasn’t broken out of her shell.  If you haven’t met her, she’s a staple in the 7pm class, you can’t miss her, she’s that shy, quiet girl that keeps to herself and does everything Marcus says during Varsity hour.

Some think she’s that way to earn a gold star on the fridge as teachers pet because she’s so attentive and zones everybody out while the Emperor apportions his wisdom amongst us.  Those are most days.

Those are the days I don’t look forward to.  The days I look forward to is when Anna’s complete opposite sister, annA, comes in.

These are the days when she comes in with her shiny diva crown as the reigning HSPU queen and wreaks havoc by chatting it up with everyone, asking how you’re doing, cheering and pushing you on, kicking everyone’s asses on her favorite WODs… and on occasion driving her custom made 10 ton, triple reinforced armored bus (equipped with a booster seat so she can see over the steering wheel) as she drives it right over you for your own good.

Those are rare days but when she does come in it’s always a joy to be in that class because she brings in that extra energy and camaraderie that makes us all push beyond our limits.

Happy nth Birthday Anna!  You’re swell.

Happy Birthday Anna!! It is always so great to work out with you! However it is slightly depressing to see yourself getting smoked on lifts by a girl half your size 😉 hope you enjoy your Bday :)

Funny Mike, when I was growing up my dad used to tell me I had an identical twin sister named Hannah who was in “the bad girls’ home”… Whenever I would act up he’d say “Hannah, what are you doing here? Bring back sweet Anna!”

Thanks for the post :). I heart my Intrepid fam!

    Heres my condensed post:

Some may say Anna is the heart and soul of CFI. Shes been crossfitting with Ruth the longest, she is a mainstay in the gym and knows everyone’s name. In some ways I feel she deserves this title but I like to think of her as the Mouth of the gym. :) From her constant marketing to new members, to the encouragement she gives others every day, she is the biggest supporter of CFI and its athletes. While that’s all nice and good where she really earns this moniker is during 7pm, where she can be heard refusing to row, shouting “MEH” when told to run a FULL lap, telling Nick D how much more she lifted than him, chatting with her bratty sisters or yelling “done” well before everyone else and loud enough for everyone to hear. It’s just unbelievable how so much personality can be crammed into such a small little frame. I always joke with her that she walks around like she owns the place…. And if she did… there would be a LOT more HSPUs. While its usually “under the bus” at the gym, what you guys don’t see a lot of is what happens outside when she talks about each and every member and how proud she was they accomplished “this” today or “that”. She speaks with such pride its almost as if she almost accomplished it herself. She is an amazing person with a heart 10x her size. And while sometimes its humbling to have your fiancée straight smoke you in a workout, clean up… THEN go cheer you on for your last round, I wouldn’t have any other way. Happy Birthday my Lil. Love you

Happy Birthday Anna… You are a huge part of what makes CFI the amazing place that it is. I miss your snappy comments and hearing you’re words of encouragement. I’m really looking forward to making my way back to the varsity class……

Happy Birthday Bus Driver! I love the energy, joy, and excitement that you bring to CFI every day. You’ll always be an inspiration for how you handled adversity and wouldn’t let your injury slow you down. To echo Brian’s comment, you are the heart and soul of the CFI community. Have a great day and a amazing year!

10 a.m. and already more than 15 comments adoring this CFI treasure. i wish i could have packed you away and taken you to SB with me, my lil. 7 p.m. in el segundo was the best part of my day and it had a lot to do with your energy, Anna (Hannah) and your gift at making everyone feel welcome and a part of the cool kid gang. and while i miss you lots, i love that we still text each other every so often just to say hello. i love you, forever friend.

Happy Birthday Anna!!! I think I said this last year, but I’ll never forget my first few months at the gym. You were loud, strong, fast and had the most amazing legs…and needless to say, intimidating. Fortunately I got to know you better and now know how fun, kind and encouraging you are. I’m so lucky to have found a great friend and workout buddy in you. I’ll always chase your strength, and I still don’t have your legs, but I really appreciate the push you give me everyday. You’re such a positive influence at the gym and we’re all so lucky to have you. As much as Marcus complains, I think he finds 7p classes boring when you’re not around to give him a hard time. :)

Happy birthday to the littlest, fiercest bus driver I know! She may be the first to wod shop and the first to sandbag but she’s always first to cheer you on and push you through a wod!

Obviously I am the last to post on this.

Since this is your birthday Anna, I will openly admit you out lifted me only once (ONLY once). I will also admit you are probably more bratty than my actual little sister (you don’t know).

Happy birthday to the biggest, loudest trouble maker in the gym :).

You are a blur on most WODs and a heckuva lot fun in class! Hope you had a great birthday weekend.
