When I first contemplated putting together a birthday post for Kevin, I thought I would pursue the typical roast model that other Intrepid guest posting greats have employed. I may have commented on the bravado he exudes while flaunting his mohawk off to Date Night, Josh, Me and all the other folically impaired Intrepids; or the swagger with which he rocks the patterned headband; or, possibly, the clean & jerk technique that even makes unborn baby Rodgers cry. However, after much deliberation, I decided that would be entirely inappropriate. Since Kevin attends the exclusive and nearly private 12:00pm classes and employs his groundhog tactics on Saturdays (If he comes to a Saturday class and sees his shadow, you won’t see him again for another six weeks), this may be your first introduction. And, quite frankly, he deserves much better.
Kevin is a huge asset to the Intrepid family. He has approached CrossFit as he does so many aspects of his life: committed and supportive. He threw himself head first into the flames by starting the Whole 30 Challenge on his first week of On Ramp. The fact that he had not even learned some of the benchmark exercises did not discourage him. Nor was he phased when some sad, Nevada line chef sabotaged his chances with a pat of butter on his fish. Despite all this, he motored on, made significant improvements (honorable mention) and not only kept true to his mission, but carried me with him. He then went about building new 16″, 20″, and 24″ boxes for us all to “enjoy.” However, that was not quite enough. So, he is also the guy that has been slinking around the classes taking all those pictures that have now become your facebook profile photos. Oh, yeah, and he also built the key rack.
So, today we celebrate Kevin’s birthday. No matter how proficient he becomes at carpentry, photography or WODs, he’ll always be a better friend. I certainly hope that you all get to know him….so that I will feel much more comfortable roasting him next year. Happy Birthday Kevin! Keep up the great work!
