Favorite Lifts/Movements: Deadlift, Bench Press, and Situps
Least Favorite Lifts/Movements: Overhead Squat, Wallball Shots, and Box Jumps (b/c they’re still scary!)
Favorite WODs: Bear, Annie, AMRAP 10 WODs, and CrossFit Dodgeball
Least Favorite WODs: Any involving wallball shots, anything over 5 rounds, and any that have more than 5 pullups in a row
Health/Fitness Accomplishments: “Just doing it. I used to be a couch potato, never really worked out other than taking long walks. I got into running a couple years ago and when I plateaued there I went looking for something to promote all around fitness & fell in love with Crossfit. Also making it to 6:30 am classes because I’m so not a morning person. People who know me are shocked that I am actually getting up that early now.”
Health/Fitness Goals: “I want to get much stronger & be able to get to over 100lbs on all the lifts, be able to do normal pushups & pullups. I want to be able to tear through the WODs like Alia, Steph or Anna do :)”
Melina has been a 6:30am regular since joining Intrepid this past summer, and I’ve had to fortunate opportunity to see her progress first hand. Watching her deadlift worksets climb upwards and her pullup bands get less and less never fails to put a smile on my face. Melina’s dedication is second to none as she’s remained a constant in the mornings despite battling various setbacks.
Melina spends much of her time outside of the gym studying for the California Bar Exam and says she can’t wait to be finished with school and studying so she can refocus her personal time to her true love, art. When Melina wants to decompress a bit she’ll lay back, kick her feet up, and kill some time playing video games, watching science fiction movies, or watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer as she says she’s a walking Buffy encyclopedia.
Next week, Melina will be celebrating her 10 year anniversary! She met her husband in a book store when he was visiting NYC from Russia. She never expected to see him again, but he came back to the states about 6 months later and ended up moving in with her. They had never even been on a date. She said they knew they were going to get married after the 2nd time they saw each other.
We’re so glad Melina is a part of the Intrepid family and we can’t wait to see what she’s got in store for 2011 now that she’s over her pesky flu. “Most Likely to have a Hill Named After Her” Melina might have a lot of hill walking in her future until her knees and back heal, but you can bet she’ll be attacking the hill and her workouts with everything she’s got.
