Athlete Profile: Sara

Happy Birthday, Sara!!

For her birthday, Sara’s husband, John, was kind enough to send us this guest post:

Ever since Sara started Crossfit at Intrepid back in September, I’ve seen the excitement she has towards fitness. Sara has always been active playing sports and running, including a full and half marathon, but her passion for daily exercise at 24 Hour Fitness just wasn’t there. It was the same stale program – chest on Monday, legs on Tuesday a spinning class here and there and so on.

Once she sampled Crossfit during her on boarding sessions last September, she has had this enthusiasm for the lifts and proper technique and the variety of exercises in the WODs. She’s like a kid excited to go to gym class every day and, with that, has grown stronger and more confident.

After her volleyball thumb injury in January (the end of her first Whole 30 challenge), she continued to go to class and her biggest concern with having surgery was having to forgo the local Crossfit Games. The day after surgery in early March, the first thing she asked her doctor was “when can I go back to Crossfit?!?!” Her doctor kind of laughed and said it would take at least ~4 months.

After less than three months of determined rehab, her PT said she could resume and Sara was begging me to get back to Intrepid! She is so happy to be back Crossfitting and completed another Whole 30 on July 31st. She’s maintained a mostly paleo diet in between her Whole 30’s and we now eat very close to a strict Paleo diet (I eat dairy in small amounts) . Sara is so lucky be part of the great Crossfit Intrepid family. I am so proud of you sweetie and I love you! Happy 31st BDAY!

Attached is a pic of Sara killing it on the rings in Venice Beach – without grips!  She even got a round of applause from the tourists on the boardwalk!

    @Michael H – I know! as soon as I’m done with school! I try to get my WODs done on campus when I’m there as they have Oly lifting plates and most crossfit equip.
