Drank Kool-Aid: September 2009
Favorite WOD: Annie
Least Fave WOD: Fran. Meeting Fran during Big Girls Don’t Cry was the first time she ever wanted to quit during a WOD.
Favorite Lift: Squats and Pistols
Least Fave Lift: Press, but only because she’s been stuck at the weight for a bit, and running.
PRs:Last November, Steph had a tough time doing a pull up with a green band. Now she can rep them out completely band free!
Best CF Accomplishment: Beating Mike in a WOD once (and Jake too!), knowing what it means to grind out a lift, doing a real burpee, doing a “guy” push up, band-less pull up, and a T2B.
CF Goal: More PRs, improve metcon times, go band-less on all movements, and to feel confident on form for oly lifts.
Stephanie, our resident acupuncturist, found us last year soon after Mike’s FGB experience. She became CFI’s second official member and a regular at Rec Park. What I remember most about Steph was how quickly she picked up every movement. Her body awareness was always impeccable as was her form. To this day, she’s the only athlete I’ve seen get through a WOD with SDHPs without sacrificing form.
I also remember Steph’s first back squat set of 95# (see photo above) and first deadlift set of 35#. She’s now gotten up to 150# in her squat set and a 203# deadlift as of May. Her bench press work set is also impressively pushing triple digits at 98#! I feel incredibly privileged to have seen her growth from Day 1, outgrowing bands, kettlebells, medballs, and barbells. I especially love that the only thing she half-a$$es is her sandbagging efforts, though from time to time, her strength and abilities surprise even herself! She’s also proud to say that she’s now in the best shape of her life. She tells people that this stuff “ain’t just for the looks, it’s functional too!”
We love Steph because of her incredible heart, uncompromising integrity with range of movement, constant thirst for knowledge, and mischievous role as one of the ‘7pm Bad Girls.’ Steph says, “I love Intrepid because of the coaches and the family. The thing that I have really enjoyed is the friendly competition and team support (go varsity team!). Intrepid has changed my life in more ways than I can express and its all because of each and every one of you.”
Happy Birthday, Stephanie! Thanks for writing such a wonderful, moving post on Saturday and we’re looking forward to more guest posts in the future!
Deadlift 1×5, 1×15-20 (65-75% of work set)
