Fave WOD: Annie, Chilean 33 (a little biased, maybe?)
Least Fave WOD: Death by 10 M, Helen
Fave Movement: Bench Press, Back Squat
Least Fave Movement: Pull ups, Toes to Bar, Snatch
Best Accomplishment: 400 M walking lunges (only wod where he seriously didn’t think he could finish), 5K through the hills of El Segundo
Bench Press 3×5 @ 225#
Back Squat 3×5 @ 285#
Goals: Unassisted Pullups, 1.5x BW Back Squat, 200# C&J club, Dubs, 2x BW Deadlift, Being able to do Toes to Bar which should be easy once he accomplishes his ultimate goal of losing the gut.
Also known as Doghouse, Xuan came to us by way of the Control Group back in March. I remember his Foundations when he knocked out OHS’s with great ease and squatted to full depth quite comfortably (insert improper rice paddy joke). Since then Xuan has made quite a reputation for himself in the gym as an incredibly hard worker, seeking out his goats, and always showing up for his least favorite workouts. Even with a crazy hectic work schedule, he made it a priority to face his demons on for Drewcifer’s wod and the neverending hill run (AKA the Intrepid 5K).
Xuan has also carved out a niche in our gym as the resident Fantasy Whisperer, having his finger on the pulse of NFL football’s inner workings. The sport savant that he is, I wouldn’t be surprised if he made his selections based on what a player ate, if he had a fight with his girlfriend(s) the night before, or if he was upset because his dog Roofie died the day before a game.
I’ll let him tell you a little bit about his life outside the gym:
I love all sports, as some of you might have guessed. but I’m a huge football and basketball fan and my sports related “extracurricular” activities could be considered a second job. I enjoy traveling and have been to 4 of 7 continents and would like to hit up all of them in my life. I can be a bit of a workaholic, but nothing is more important to me than my friends and family. I love Intepid because I feel like I get both of those while also getting in shape.
Xuan, you are irreplaceable part of the Intrepid fam. We love you dearly and hope you have a wonderful birthday! Looking forward to seeing you check off all your goals in this next year!
* if you don’t have a jump rope, go buy one! Or, sub 2x lateral jumps. Find an object that’s 3-4″ off the ground and laterally jump over it. Every time you land, it’s one rep.
c/o pistol work: if you have no bands try squatting to a box, using a door jamb for support, or stand on a raised platform (preferably not grandma’s coffee table) and hang your leg off the side as you lower and stand.
