Athlete Profiles: Mark M. & Troy

By avelyne | In Athlete Profiles | on September 6, 2013

Today we celebrate 2 special birthdays.  The majority of birthday posts usually end up being roasts and today is no exception.  Now I admit, I didn’t receive any write ups from any friend or relative of either birthday “boys” but I couldn’t let these two shy away from a little birthday fun!  So, with your help, I’m sure we can have a proper birthday BONFIRE!  I’ll start the roast going and you (the reader) can add your “fond” memories of Mark M. and Troy in the comments.

The first, Mark M., is a long time Intrepid that used to sweat it out in the early morning classes alongside Date Nite and Pablo.  In between work sets, Mark would get tips from Date Nite on how to cope with being the sole male in the household and also how best to prepare his girls for CrossFit Games 2031.  You see, he started off this year with the best gifts of all, beautiful TWIN baby girls, Avery and Audrey!  And that was the end of Proud Papa Mark’s early WOD days.  Since then, when he gets a spare hour between changing diapers for time, AMRAP spit up clean up, or teaching his girls all of the entertaining facets of ESPN, he can be seen in the 5pm class giving his all.

On to Troy…Troy. Troy. Troy.  This birthday boy can make you laugh one second and in another you’ll want to punch him in the shoulder.  Most likely, he’d respond with a confused look on his face and say, “What?” eliciting a disapproving head shake from his brother, Tyler and/or Ruth.  Not too long ago, I learned the hard way to to stay away from Troy while he’s stretching, or foam rolling, as he tends to get comfortable and relieves himself of noxious fumes.  Troy, will also demonstrate (read: show off) how easy everything is, even when you aren’t asking him.  Muscle up?  Yea, just do it like this (proceeds to rep out 5 in a row).  Bar muscle up?  Yea, just do it like this (proceeds to rep out 5 in a row).  Butterfly pullups? Yea, just do it like this (proceeds to rep out 10 in a row, jumps off the bar, laughs and says, “What?” as I give him this frustrated stare).

All joking aside, both Mark and Troy are the best when it comes to cheering on their classmates.  Throughout the WOD, I can hear the both of them yelling between breaths ‘keep going! one more rep! you got this!’  Even when they’ve long since finished the WOD, they’re still there cheering for you and will put away your weights as you lay passed out on the floor.  Happy Birthday Mark and Troy!  Have a great time celebrating tonight!

Come and celebrate with Mark and Troy tonight at Rock & Brews on Main Street at 7pm right after the last class.  They hope to see everyone there to commiserate right after Jackie!

    Happy birthday fellas!

M2: Many people don’t know that he can play a game of frisbie by himself – he is that fast and probaly why, before the twins, he flew (he probably could have run) around the country playing in national ultimate frisbie competitions.

Troy: He may be Tyler’s little bro, but I think he watches a lot (or at least more than me) of Rich Froning or Justin Beiber footage. Like those two, Troy has not met a shirt he likes to work out in.

It is always good times in the gym when you guys are around. Have a great day! See you tonight.

M2: Happy Birthday bro, you are a beast. If only you can get more than 20 mins of sleep a night, you’d be unstoppable. I also love that you subscribe to my theory that drinking beer increases lifts. (More beer = more gription/leverage on the bar = PR’s, its science people)

On to Troy, Happy Birthday. That all I’m gonna say for now……time to get roasted. Deal with it.

Datenite- I’ve been thinking the same thing, its almost as Troy’s shirt has been coming off earlier and earlier each day. The other day, in our office, I could of swore he had it off by 2:45. Perhaps, we instill a standing rule that he has to beat his aging older brother in the WOD before removing any or all articles of clothing. I think this way, we could at least keep him clothed the majority (close to 99.9%) of the time.

Avelyne- Love it, great post. Next time Troy “demonstrates” a movement for you, instead of playing into his sick little game, just remind him that it only counts when he can regularly beat Tyler at a WOD. That will shut him up at the same time get him to work harder. Win-win for everyone.

Speaking of noxious fumes, Jason: if you read this, take comfort in the fact that your flatulent traditions are alive and well carried on daily through the Birthday boy.

Last but not least, Ruth: I commend you, kind soul. It’s been 2 1/2 years and you still haven’t killed the kid. You’re too nice. Don’t feel bad about doing what I do. Just blank stare him in the face, tell him to STFU, turn around and walk away in the opposite direction.

Anyways, in the spirit of Troy, I am sick today. I have an annoying cold and probably won’t be coming in today to properly decimate Troy in the WOD…errrrrr congratulate Troy on his Birthday. Since I won’t be there at 5 maybe everyone can let him finish first so he can feel good about himself on his special day.

Troy, Happy Birthday. I love competing against you everyday just as much as when we were little and I would watch you spend countless hours building giant lego cities in which I would promptly smash into a million pieces.

    Happy Birthday Guys!

How do you know when Troy doesn’t finish with at top 5 time of the day? When he’s still there at 7pm to explain (ie make excuses) why he did so bad.

I refuse to roast a guy with infant twins at home. All happy greetings for you, Mark! Hope you have a great day.

    Happy Birthday Fellas!

Marky Mark, you are one hell of an Intrepid and it has been a pleasure chatting with you before, during, and after WODs. Your family is blessed to have you.

Troy, its has been tons of fun battling you everyday at the gym. Thanks for pushing me to work on my goats and always being a constant motivator.
