I have to admit doing a little ninja edit to yesterday’s post. You see, today is the birthday of our very own T.I.T. Jake and we are fortunate enough to have another guest post roast, courtesy of Brian. Sean had added his own message to Jake as part of his post that I removed:
A big birthday shoutout to Jake today! As one of Intrepid’s OG’s, it has been awesome watching you grow both as an athlete and a coach. You’re an integral part of the Intrepid fam and it just wouldn’t be the same without you. Have a great birthday!
But now, onto the fun… here’s Brian’s roast:
Jake has always been a mainstay for me at CrossFit. A great athlete, a nice guy, constant smile… I mean its no wonder I immediately hated him from the start. Despite this we developed a nice CrossFit bro-mance since we were about on the same level and seemed to always push each other… that is until running workouts came up. I mean… it almost was like we were meant to be arch-rivals. He was better at the thing I was the worst at (running) and I was better at everything else (blatant lie). So in those instances where running WODs came up I just tried to keep him from lapping me twice… I mean he’s like Forrest Gump without the mentally challenged part (well… not completely sure about that… cant trust someone that smiles that much). I would try to leg sweep him at the start, throw trash cans to trip him up, bribe motorists to run him over…nothing worked. I’d be flying (struggling) through a workout and he would be right on my heels… or passing me (most likely passing me for the second time). He is like a machine. Nowadays, the first thing I do upon entering the gym is to look for his times… gasp… complain to Marcus that Jake was somehow cheating… then make a very feeble attempt at surpassing it. I’m totally convinced that Jake started working out at 5pm to save me the embarrassment of getting smoked in person, and for that I probably have to thank you (reluctantly).
In all seriousness the guy is nothing short of amazing. The most humble guy you’ll ever meet, stellar athlete, great attitude… just a perfect example of what an Intrepid should be. You really are a motivation to us all, not only for your WOD times but your dedication and work-ethic. It’s really been a joy to see you develop and exceed all expectations over the years. In fact the only expectations you didn’t exceed were your own. Looking at last years B-day post you list your goals as a 500lb DL…(How’s that coming?) and finish in the top 15 for the December NLP (must’ve had problems signing up for that one too). Only kidding! So please join me in wishing our very own “Son of Je-Zeus” (pronounced Hay-Zoose for all you Caucasians out there) a FELIZ CUMPLEAÑOS
A “Congratulations” is also in order as Jake recently obtained his freshly minted CrossFit Level 1 Certification… Please now refer to him as Coach Jake…or Coach Jake-a$$ behind his back. And as a new coach I’ll leave you with some words of wisdom that will help guide you in your future coaching endeavors (modified slightly).
“Jake better not get in my face… cause I’ll DROP that mother-effer”…
-Brennan Huff, (Step Brothers, 2008)
