The American Lung Association, the leading organization working to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease, is hosting a fundraising event to “Fight For Air.” The funds raised go to research and … to prevent, fight the effects of, and/or cure asthma, lung cancer, emphysema, COPD, and second hand smoke. Many CrossFit Affiliates are joining in the Fight and, like Barbells For Boobs, have found yet another way to support the community in the betterment of health and wellness. The American Lung Association says,
The LA event is 1,377 stairs of sheer burn, and we’re not talking about your lungs. The sad news is, Californians breathe the worst air in the nation, 90% of us live in areas with unhealthy air. Fight For Air Climb is trying to change that. We’re raising funds to fight for cleaner air that our lungs will breathe for years to come.
CrossFitters know all too well that our sport is more than just our fitness regime-it’s what makes us who we are. Our lives changed the minute we logged on to CrossFit.com or worked up the courage to walk into a box for the first time and asked, “What’s this thing called a WOD?” We never really know how much we’re going to suffer when we hear those beautiful words “3-2-1, Go!” But we can promise two things: it’s going to hurt and we’re going to love every second of it.
Fight For Air Climb is a true CrossFit event-utilitarian in nature and a no-fluff approach to fitness. We’re asking you to be the faces, attitudes, hearts and souls who represent CrossFit in our partnership with the American Lung Association to raise funds and awareness for improving lung health and preventing lung disease.
In order to stay true to CrossFit’s competitive nature, there will be several categories in which individuals and affiliates can compete. The categories are as follows:
- Overall Top Affiliate Fundraisers Per Climb
- Top Affiliate Fundraisers Statewide
- Top Individual Fundraisers Statewide
- Affiliate with the Fastest Time
- Affiliate with the Most CrossFit Participants in Most Climbs Statewide
