Intrepid Auld Lang Syne

Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind ?
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and old lang syne ?

As I sit here and bid farewell to 2013, I started to reminisce about the old days. Since we opened in August of 2009, we have seen people come and some people go, but those who pass through leave their mark and have helped shape this gym into the family it is today. Today, I want to remember a few Intrepids who moved away but are still remembered. This is by no means a comprehensive list, so I’m not intentionally forgetting anyone!!

Becky, who has a box named after her, has also become a verb here. To “Becky” the bar means you send an athlete to go get water/paper towels/shoes/etc while the coach sneaks more weight on the bar.

Drew, at 6’6,” walked into the gym after we installed our pull up bars and exposed our lack of sensitivity to the vertically superior. We subsequently installed higher bars after which Drew moved to the east coast.

Jenna, Drew’s better [and just as tall] half, lovingly sabotaged her husband with her sheet karate during the sleep challenge so Anna would win.

Jason, who thankfully came in and put our high pull up bars to good use, gave the 5pm class its personality (er notoriety). His creativity was evident in the new ways he came up with every week to fake the warm up lap.

Kara, who won the Intrepid Scavenger hunt by running amuck all over the Gundo, PR’d by leaps and bounds in her short time here.

Susan, who won the plank hold at a cool 4:00 (which was waaaaay longer than the second place time) attributed to her yoga skills.

Andrea, who won the 2012 Halloween costume contest by dressing up as Sean, saw just how well loved she was by the number of people to came to bid her farewell at her going away dinner. She will always be part of the 6:30am class in spirit.

Elisa, a total sweetheart, was a 6pm regular and Adriana’s CF BFF. She made Marcus proud when she tackled the prowler (her goat) head on.

Bryant proved his level of commitment when he realized he forgot his workout clothes day 1 of On Ramo. He went out and bought new shoes and waaaaay too large basketball shorts so he wouldn’t miss it!

Vik, who unfortunately christened our new floors at the old gym, became a regular and had Anna asking if he was buying smaller shirts or if he was just getting swole. He also gave Cade his first dumbbell and graciously helped us improve our site.

Denny & Johnson, our noon regulars, kept me giggling with their dry humor. Their hard work was matched by their generosity.

Melissa & Scott, our resident party people, not only worked hard inside the gym, but were known to challenge people to arm wrestling matches outside the gym as well.

Brendan, our athlete who became a trainer, got his Level 1 Certification and dedicated a lot of his time to learning more about coaching a class.

There are too many of you and even more stories for me to fit in one post so whether you were mentioned in the above list, or represented in the photos, I want to say thank you for leaving your mark and making this place the wonderful community it is today. Come drop in when you can!
