Intrepid Games Wrap Up

By avelyne | In Competition, Events and Announcements | on October 1, 2012

If you were unable to make the Intrepid Games on Saturday, I’m not going to sugar coat it.  YOU MISSED OUT!  A fun time was had by all in attendance, from the spectators to the competitors, the judges and even the kiddos!  It was incredible to see all of your friends and family there to show their support in your physical endeavors.  PRs were set not only on competition day but also the days leading up to competition day.  And that’s exactly what a competition will do for you.  It makes you work on your goats, whether it’s mobility work or a troublesome movement and also, in the aftermath of a competition, will point out areas that need improvement.

From a coach’s standpoint, we couldn’t be more proud of all our athletes!  We hope you feel accomplished in completing the Intrepid Games, which for some of you is your first ever CrossFit competition.  Participating in 3 WODs in one day is no easy task and you all did extremely well!  Since this was our first CrossFit competition and we allowed so many scaling options, we encountered some issues with th scoring which we’ll address below.  Without further ado…

Novice Division Winners

Female: 1. Sara 2. Alice T 3. Sam

Male: 1. Randy (left before his photo op) 2. David P 3. AJ(also left before his photo op)

*Randy and David P. actually tied for first place!  Way to go David! Randy and AJ, please see us to claim your prize packages and medals*

Scaled Division Winners

Female: 1. Alia 2. Celina 3. Cherie

(Photo Not Yet Available)

Male: 1. Jon 2. Patrick 3. Kevin R.

*Although Kyle was initially crowned the bronze finisher, after reviewing the score cards Kevin R. actually captured the 3rd Place spot.  We apologize for the confusion guys.  Kevin please see us to claim your prize package!*

Open Division Winners

Female: 1. Holley 2. Steph 3. Anna

Male: 1. Brian 2. Mike K 3. Jake

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OUR COMPETITORS!!!  Your performances were inspiring to watch!  Also a huge thank you to Jon and Holley for spearheading the planning and logistics, Kevin E. for the photographs, Anthony for the DJ services, Nick and Becky for MCing the event, Brian’s Bowls for offering food, all the judges and volunteers.  We hope you had a great experience competing amongst your peers and hope you’ll consider competing again in another CrossFit competition in the future. Post your memorable moments/PRs to comments for all to enjoy.

WOD 10.01.12

Bench Press 3×5 or Wendler 5/3/1

Wow! What an awesome day! Very impressive job organizing that event Holley and Jon. Everything went off without a hitch.

Too many amazing feats on Saturday to recap them all or even see them all while running around to compete, warm-up, cool-down, etc.

A huge CONGRATS to Mike H for Clean & Jerking 200+ pounds!! Holy cow! That’s insanity. The only way to describe that is a “Spealer-type” effort.

Also, big congrats to Mike K and Mike S (I think) for putting up big Overheat Squat PRs in WOD2. To put up a PR and then repeat it 10 times! SICK!

Big congrats to Jenica for PRing this week on her first Double Unders and then almost making it through 30 during competition! Way to stick with it and grind it out.

A huge congrats to all the winners and all the competitors. And a huge thanks to all the trainers who have motivated and guided each of us to be able to accomplish these feats. Great day on Saturday.

Ruth, how long am I going to be sore and limping? What’s the WOD today? AMRAP Roll-out?

Congrats to everyone who participated, not just the winners! How long until the next competition?

I was told some words of wisdom after WOD2: “Look at the bright side, you now have a new 9 rep max!”

What an awesome day! Although I was involved in the planning of this competition, and very much appreciated all of your kind words, it was everyone that made this event so special. This competition was a concentrated version of all that makes our box great: camaraderie, support, dedication, family, selflessness, spreadsheets, and smartasserie.
A few of the highlights that I was able to witness (when not curled in the fetal position outside), that have not already been mentioned, were: Steph PRing not once, but twice, on the C&J while simultaneously cheering on Holley and Anna; Kevin R. realizing 2 days before the competition that he’d need to learn to do toes to bar and then hammering out 5 rounds of them like a Boss; and of course, the Brian’s Bowls sweet potatoes (I may have “witnessed” these more than once).
Thank you Ruth and Sean for, literally, opening your home to us every day and creating this phenomenal community. These games and our box are a reflection on your tireless commitment to creating a fun, safe, and supportive enclave where we are often pushed beyond our comfort, but seldom beyond our capacities.
I am hoping that my hamstrings go off strike soon. I’ve promised them some cheese and a chocolate chip cookie…they’ll be voting at lunch time. I look forward to hobbling through a WOD with you all soon.

Thank you Avelyne for trying to help me save face with our ‘recount’ cover story, but I think everyone deserves to know the truth about Kevin’s win. When I heard Holley and Jon had assigned judges on Thursday, I got them a few bottles of wine deep (Jon’s a sucker for anything sparkling) and got them to tell me Avelyne would be my judge. A few secret meetings later, Avelyne agreed to rig the judging to put me in second place on the Open division in exchange for a sizable bribe. Unfortunately for me, Avelyne is a little greedy and tried to extort me for more in the midst of WOD 1, showing me she meant business with quite a few no-reps. Not budging on my original offer, she put me in third place in the Scaled division instead of our original agreement.

Witnessing this extortion in action, Ning anonmously tipped off the judging committee and Sunday I was brought in front of a tribunal. Levying counts of bribing judges, anabolic steroid use and dog-fighting against me, I eventually pleaded guilty to bribery. I’ve been put on probation pending hearings and the results of a steroid panel.

In all seriousness though, congrats to all of the competitors especially Kevin R. (sorry I got all your props!)! Looking forward to next year! Big thanks to everyone that organized the event – you put on a great day!

Saturday was an exciting day of PRs!
    – Jenica did her first workout with dubs and knocked out 30 to boot!
    – Paul did his first workout with band-less pull ups!
    – Kyle got a 10# PR on his clean and jerk at 175#, after a week of the stomach flu!
    – Alia PR’d her clean and jerk at 138#, proving that she’s back in the game after her back surgery!
    – Patrice PR’d her clean and jerk by 20+# at 133#!

Saturday was a truly great day! I second Jon, your kind words mean so much, but really it was the entire group that made the day happen. It was incredible to watch the day unfold and for everyone to see what it means to be a part of CrossFit Intrepid. There was so much smiling, cheering and positive energy.
Huge thanks to Ruth and Sean for opening their home to all of us and for creating such a great environment for people to get and stay healthy.
Also, a shout out to my Open ladies! You girls killed those workouts and knocked out those C2B pull ups like you’ve had them for months. I must admit, I much prefer having you guys on my team as opposed to competing against you! 😉

Ditto to all of the above! An amazing day all around. The results of such a great CFI community!

    Some other highlights

    – Vic pretty much PR’d on every kettlebell swing considering it was his first time doing 53#.
    – Mike K, PR’d on Thursday attempting his OHS buy-in, and then 10x that PR’d
    – Mike K also PR’d on the C&J’s

Just think, if we had this many PR’s after multiple WOD’s, just think what we can do on a fresh day! A true testament to the shirts we all share.

Hats off to everyone in attendance!

I think Brady PR’d both his OHS and KB Snatch weights. He put in a very gutsy performance in WOD #2.

Awesome event! Everything was so amazing! I think it’s been said a ton of times already; Holley and Jon, you guys did an amazing job organizing the event. So smooth! I can’t wait till the next one, thank you! Also thank you to Ruth and Sean for Intrepid and the family that you have built, opening up your home (literally), and gathering all of us together to enjoy a beautiful Saturday.

There were so many memorable moments I can’t even think of recapping them all. It was SO amazing to witness people pushing harder than they’ve ever pushed before, shattering their PRs, and throwing up huge weights! I especially loved being involved as a judge; seeing the determination and drive in the athletes up close! Just awesome!

Congrats to all the athletes, all the PRs that were set, and all the blood, sweat, and tears (Mike H saw mine).
