This weekend many Intrepids will be busy around Southern California representing our gym. In Los Angeles we will have James, Tom Ralph, Troy, and Patrick teaming up to compete in the Randy Simmons Crossfit Event. Not only will we be sending a men’s team, but the ladies wanted to get into the mix and show off what they got. Avelyne will be leading the ladies into action. She will be joined by Cristina, Celina, and Michelle (Wod Killa). The Randy Simmons 5k starts promptly at 8am with the Crossfit event following the run immediately after the last runner crosses the finish line. Let’s be sure to wish all of them good luck!
This past week Christine Q. from the 730AM class went just outside of California to participate in a marathon. Christine ran the 26.2 mile race around Paris, France! I bet that the scenery was very nice and very different compared to the local L.A. Marathon. We don’t have her official time yet, but I am sure that she did very well. Congrats!
Over in Temecula this Sunday I will be running from zombies in the Run for Your Lives 5k. I am super excited to participate in this event. I am sure I will have many stories to share and hopefully next year we can get other Intrepids to participate.
The last event that will be taking place happens to be the most exciting. One of the original power couples of Intrepid will be tying the knot this weekend. Anna and Brian have been members of Intrepid since 2009. From day one they showed us to WOD hard while always having a good time. They also happen to be two of the kindest people that I know and always are the first to lend a helping hand no matter the situation. You guys totally deserve a lifetime of happiness and we wish you the best of luck.
We started the week off with overhead squats. The squats were followed by the dreaded “Death by 10 meters.” Starting with 10 meters athletes would add an additional 10 meters to their run on every minute. The PRs for Monday were Brendan overhead squatting 105lbs for 2 reps. Nate P. got up to 70lbs for a set of 2. Ryan V. was able to knock out his set at 110lbs. In the 7PM class Vik, James, Michele Rice completed 17 runs, Anna finished 16, Josh and James ran fast to get 18.
Tuesday’s lift was the back squat. Jon got his work set all the way up to 340lbs. It is scary to think what he could lift if he was going for a PR. Scott C. finished 5 reps at 310lbs. The workout was an AMRAP 10 minutes of 6 v-ups, 8 pistols, and 10 hang power cleans. Ashley was able to do full range pistols. It also happened to be her first time ever doing pistols. Gerry worked hard to complete 6 rounds. Mercy finished with 5 rounds.
Wednesday was the bench press and a partner WOD of 50 ring dips (or 25 muscle-ups)/200 dubs then 100 kb snatches/100 calorie row. No PRs were hit for this day, but a few athletes put up some impressive numbers. Dan knocked out 5 reps at 215lbs. Celina lifted 103lbs for her 3×5 set. The partner WOD had each team working well with each other. Lisa and Michelle finished the WOD in 12:10. Francis and Pablo moved quickly to finish in 13:34.
Thursday focused mainly on mobility and recovery. The first 10 minutes of class were dedicated to rolling out and stretching. Athletes then worked on frog stands and 1-arm handstand work. The rest of class was individual time.
Friday’s class began with Turkish get-ups. There were many PRs due to this being the first time athletes tried the get-up. The lift was followed by of one of the most famous Crossfit WODs. The WOD was Fran. Fran is a 21-15-9 of thrusters and pull-ups. Luke moved quickly and finished in 4:17. Sara used 53lbs for her thrusters and finished in 9:53.
