Keeping it Classy and BootCamp Update

Today’s post is a friendly reminder about gym etiquette. Back in January 2011, Ruth wrote a guide to the gym which primarily focused on how to treat our equipment. Since that time (knock on wood) we have not had any major issues with the initial rules that were laid out. We’ve done a pretty good job of using the equipment the correct way. Whether it is an ab mat or kettlebell , I’ve seen proper use of the equipment, for the most part. The only real item I have noticed is on occasion, we tend to be a tad bit rough with our barbells. When unloading a bar make sure to gently place it on the ground and not drop it and make a loud bang. Same thing applies when you place the bar back into the rack or stand. No need to slam the bar. Just walk it in nice and easy. Maintaining our equipment also implies wiping it down, especially if you sweat all over it. Med balls and ab/yoga mats tend to get the most sweat on them and I have seen many athletes making sure to wipe either down with a Clorox wipe. Lastly, it is common to rip your hands on the pull-up bars, especially if you don’t shave down calluses, or even scrape your leg from one too many cleans, snatches, or dl’s. So if that happens to you make sure immediately following the lift/WOD to wipe down any blood on that bar. Unfortunately a couple weeks ago one of our athletes noticed, during the middle of their set, that the bar they were using had dried blood all over it. Although it was an accident, it is still gross and unsanitary. Besides this incident, keep up the good work of taking care of our gym and all the tools that make us a better athlete. Just remember blood and sweat on any equipment = Clorox wipes!
We have an update for the 2013 BootCamp Challenge! So far we have 12 Intrepids that want to be part of a team. Besides me and Ashley B. we have Amanda, Michele R., Tom D., Colleen, Mat, Brian, Holley, Neil, Paul, and Mike S. I would like to get at least 3 more peeps so that way we can send 3 teams down to San Diego. If anyone else is interested post to comments or write your name on the white board by the office. We still have a few more weeks before prices go up so I think we are in good shape. Thanks to all who plan on participating!
