Avelyne's 1st Attempt

Finally, after 6 weeks of training, Sean, Avelyne, and I have finally gotten our first weightlifting meet under our belts.  There were quite a range of lifters there from juniors to masters, and from beginners to world record setters.  First, a huge thanks to Anna, Jake, Marcus, Mike, Wendi, and the Viquez fam for coming out to support us.

We learned a lot about meet protocol as well as proper warm up time.  What was most surprising and striking to me, though was how hushed the room got before any lift.  The room was buzzing with noise with warm up reps crashing mini reunions taking place-until a lifter walks onto the platform.  The hush that fell over the crowd was more silent than a golf tournament or a church!   Huge props to the crowd as well for the supportive atmosphere.  Every single person in the room was rooting for every lifter to get a good lift.   After every failed lift, you would hear a collective sigh from the spectators.

So, without further adieu, here were our lift attempts:

Avelyne (63kg)
Snatch 37, 42, 46F
C&J: 51, 55, 60
Total: 102

Ruth (63kg…barely made weigh-in!)
Snatch: 51, 54F, 54F
C&J: 72, 77, 80F
Total: 128

Sean (94kg)
Snatch: 81, 85, 90F
C&J: 120, 124, 128
Total: 213

Next meet will be at CrossFit Marina on Dec 4. Details coming soon.

Congrats! Sorry I had to miss it. That silence is creepy and really intimidating. It’s almost as intimidating as a woman who can do a burpee in heels. =)

Thanks Scott! It was a long day, but we couldn’t have done it without our Cheer Squad and all of your support!

Yeah, no comment on the singlets. At least everyone was wearing it there!
