Scientific studies have shown that children who associate exercise with fun from an early age will continue to do so for the rest of their lives. Our kids program is not simply a scaled down version of adult class, but a program specifically designed for each age group.
Each 30 minute class consists of 4 parts:
-A warm up iwhich is most often an agility course or a game
-Skill work, which can be anything from squats to tumbling to nutrition discussions
-Workouts usually incorporate movements from skill work either from that day or a previous class. They are short, fun, and encourage children to focus on a task at hand
-Classes always end with a game that involves physical activity, coordination, and most importantly, fun!
Our teen classes, however, are structured more like our adult classes. These one hour classes will focus more on lifting weights with proper technique, high intensity workouts that reinforce good muscle memory, and proper recovery techniques. This class is an excellent way to maintain a solid base of strength and conditioning for any sport. More importantly, strong muscles, bones, and connective tissue all work towards reducing injury.
Parents have asked if teens can just join the adult class, but even the most experienced teen may still go through growth spurts, which can drastically change how he or she moves. Our CrossFit Kids instructors are familiar with this and can safely identify when this happens. We also keep a lower athlete to trainer ratio in our teen classes.
