Now that's a cake!

Birthday parties are always lots of fun. You see friends and get to socialize. You play games and laugh at the silliness of it all and there is usually a ton of food. Of course it’s a good time! Unless you are participating in our Whole 30 challenge this month. Then, you’re sitting there and you feel tormented by all of the food you can’t eat. You start having those carb cravings and sugar pangs and then your buddy is standing there holding an ice cold beer for you. Oh no…and then you realize…birthday equals birthday CAKE! AHHHHHHH!!! This was my embellished, Saturday afternoon.

So, what do you do? Do you say, “Oh well! It was good while it lasted!”? We sure hope not! Even in this type of scenario, you can still plan ahead. We typically know of parties in advance and if we’re lucky, we’ll even know the menu. Sometimes though, we aren’t so lucky. In this case, eat a light meal beforehand and maybe even carry some snacks with you for the car ride home. In my case specifically, I knew burgers would be on the menu and there were tons of veggies leftover from the crudite so I stock piled my plate with those. As it neared closer to my next feeding time, I grabbed a couple more burger patties and some fruit to hold me over until dinner. While I’m not saying I didn’t resist my urge to take a deep whiff of the birthday cake in all of its sugary frosted glory, I did manage to not eat it. I also managed to avoid all of the other junk food that was within arm’s reach. The opportunity was there. No one would have known except for me. Yet, it would have been my own guilty conscience and the fact that I let myself down that would eat at me.

So, 1 weekend down, 3 more to go! Use your resources! Call on your partner or one of the trainers if you need moral support! We know you can do it!

    Nice Post, Ave!!
While I’m not on the challenge I can relate and my weekends tend to be when all those dreaded temptations make appearances. grrr.
Prep is def a good strategy to combat sugar!
    miss your faces!

My husband is trying to trip me up – he brought home a whole cheesecake the other day, then the next day he brought home some really good Belgian ale. Funny thing about me though is that when people try to trip me up it makes my resolve that much more focused because then I get angry…..

Melissa when are you going to bring your butt back in?

Melina-nice self control! It’s one thing when you’re at someone else’s place and manage to avoid sugar and a whole other when your own family tries to sabotage you!

I totally agree with Avelyne. Nice job Melina!

@Anna, holy crap your Athlete Profile was hysterical! Hopefully it’ll at least bring MIA#1 back in if not only for a smart ass retort!! :-)
