The other day I was browsing the internet in search of upcoming 5ks in the local area. One particular race caught my attention. It was advertised as the “Happiest 5k.” This 5k is called The Color Run. The Color Run isn’t necessarily all about speed and what place you finish. It is all about fun and being soaked in different colors. The pictures on the link, www.thecolorrun.com, show just how much fun all the participants are having. The “colors” that the runners/walkers have thrown upon them are 100% natural and safe. It looks to be colored powder or chalk. I will say that after watching the video that I really became interested in the event. The next Color Run in Los Angeles will be held at Dodger Stadium on February 2nd. At the moment it is $45 to register but prices will increase to $50 starting January 1st. If anyone is interested click on the link and the register button is at the top right hand corner.
The week started off with the back squat. Paul K. was able to PR at 180lbs for 5 reps. After the back squat, athletes loaded up their bars to get ready for the WOD. The WOD was a 21-15-9 rep scheme of overhead squats and pull-ups. This workout lasted anywhere between 3 and 10 minutes depending on how fast the athletes moved. Godfrey finished in 7:37 and used 95lbs for is overhead squat weight. Celina used 53lbs and finished in 10:35. The Swanson brothers worked off each other and both finished under 3 minutes.
Tuesday’s lift was the bench press. Morgan knocked out 6 reps at 140lbs. Pooja set a PR by lifting 68lbs for 5 total reps. Kevin R. hit 3 reps at 255lbs, although it wasn’t a PR, it was still a monster lift. Mike K. also lifted 255lbs for 1 rep. The partner workout consisted of burpees and a 170 meter run. While partner A did burpees partner B would do the run. Once he/she came back from the run they would switch stations. The goal was to complete a total of 100 burpees. Johnny and JP finished in 8:48. Lisa and Michelle worked very well together and completed the WOD in 7:20. Brian and Sean teamed up and finished in 7:15.
On Wednesday we did a variation of “Fight Gone Bad.” The workout was 3 rounds of 1 minute stations of ball slams, wall ball shots, hang power cleans, box jumps, and rowing for calories. Once the WOD was done athletes would total up the number of reps completed and use that as the total score. Andrea had the biggest PR of the day. This was her first WOD with box jumps where she did not trip at all. It was a very successful day for her. Nice job, Andrea! She also totaled 227 reps on the WOD. James nearly hit 300 reps. He finished with 289 while using a 35lb slam ball, 20lb wall ball, 95lbs for hang power cleans, and a 24 inch box.
Thursday was a mobility and recovery day. The class started with rolling and stretching out the shoulders, quads, and glutes. Athletes then worked on snatches and L-Sits.
Friday’s lift was the dead lift. Alia got her lift up to 205lbs and completed 4 reps. Pat had a solid PR at 133lbs and knocked out 5 reps. The WOD was an 8 minute AMRAP of 6 push jerks, 8 toes to bar, and 10 pistols. Every athlete finished within the range of 2 to 5 rounds. Nate was able to do toes to bar for the first time in a workout. Kathy moved very well through the workout as she finished with 4 rounds and 4 toes to bar. Kevin E. finished with 4 rounds and 5 push jerks and he used 83lbs for the jerks.
Please post any PRs that I may have missed.
