I attribute the Purdue vs IU rivalry to the USC vs UCLA rivalry, so I can imagine it’s pretty intense (How many IU freshmen does it take to change a light bulb? None, it’s a second year course…nothing like good humor to start your day). If that’s the case, then I expect a lot of interest in this 5K run challenge. On Saturday, November 11th Team USC and Team UCLA will compete in the inaugural 5K rivalry run to support the special Olympics The location of the competition will switch from school to school until 2015 when the Special Olympics occurs in Los Angeles with over 7,000 athletes and at least 170 countries represented.
The race will take place on November 11th, 2012 at the UCLA Campus Intramural Field. Registration is from 7:30a until 8:50a and the race starts at 9a. If you sign up for the race you’ll get a shirt associated with your school colors. It costs $35 to run with additional donations optional.
The winning school will be decided based on three things: number of runners, money through donations, and the first team to have 100 runners cross the finish line. The team that wins two of the three categories (or all three) will win that year’s challenge. Looking at the website, UCLA is currently in the lead for the first two categories.
So go out and support your team in honor of the Special Olympics team of the USA! There is a card with more information that can be found on the bulletin board. To sign up visit this website:
